I Join To Support The Closure Of Banex Plaza For As Long As It Takes – Gen Irabor Reacts

Former Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor, has strongly condemned the recent assault on soldiers at Banex Plaza, describing it as an attack on the state. In an interview with Arise TV, General Irabor emphasized that such actions should be denounced by all Nigerians of goodwill, stressing that failure to do so would invite anarchy.

“When you raise your hand on a soldier or a uniformed person, it is an attack on the state. And so every Nigerian of goodwill must condemn such an act. And so for me, I join to support the closure of Banex Plaza for as long as it takes to have everyone responsible for that dastardly act to be brought to book. If we fail to do so, then we will be calling for anarchy,” General Irabor said.

General Irabor expressed his support for the closure of Banex Plaza until those responsible for the heinous act are held accountable. He praised the intervention of policemen and private individuals who prevented further escalation, which could have led to a scenario akin to the Okuama incident.

“The only men who are sacrificing their lives to ensure our collective good are members of the armed forces, the police, and other security agencies. If on a slight provocation, they are now attacked to the extent that if not for the policemen and other private individuals that rescued those soldiers, we could have been looking at Okuama 2, which of course does not speak well of us,” General Irabor added.

The former Chief of Defense Staff emphasized the importance of national security and the responsibility of all citizens in preserving the sanctity of institutions. He noted that members of the armed forces, police, and other security agencies are sacrificing their lives to ensure the collective good, and therefore, should be treated with respect and dignity.
