The national power grid suffered a system collapse today, July 6, 2024, at around 3:09 pm, causing a nationwide blackout.
This is the fourth time the national power grid has collapsed this year, and the seventh time it has collapsed since the start of the year.
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) confirmed the collapse in a statement, stating that all of its interface stations with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) are out of supply.
The company is currently unable to provide services to customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states.
The EEDC is awaiting detailed information on the cause of the collapse and a possible restoration timeline from the National Control Centre in Osogbo.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) also confirmed the collapse, stating that it is working with relevant stakeholders to restore power as soon as possible .

The TCN had previously reported a total of 46 grid collapses between 2017 and 2022, with nine grid collapses in 2019, four in 2020, and two in 2021.
