During President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, Hajia Aishatu Ismail, a renowned scholar, served as Minister of Women Affairs and Youth Development. In a recent conversation with The Sun, she offered her perspective on Tinubu’s government.
Ismail has a wealth of experience, having attended the University of Wales in the UK and Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. She has held positions as Special Envoy of African Unity and as the first Director-General of the National Commission for Women.
She emphasized important concerns affecting Nigeria while expressing her profound unhappiness with the performance of both the Tinubu administration and the previous administration under Muhammadu Buhari.
She provided a direct evaluation of governance principles in answer to a query concerning the rising dissatisfaction in the North against the Tinubu government, specifically with reference to selections that favored Lagos and the Yoruba area.
She underlined that, regardless of a person’s location or ethnicity, the administration should place a high priority on appointing competent people who can handle the multitude of difficulties facing the nation.
She condemned the practice of political appointees being selected more for political reasons than for their qualifications, pointing to a similar tendency in past administrations.
