Strike: Labour Cuts Water Supply To Senate, House Of Reps
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) have shut down the National Assembly in accordance with an indefinite strike declared by the organised labour. The strike began today following the federal government’s refusal to increase the minimum wage above N60,000.
The union demanded N494,000 and shut down electricity and water supply to the Senate and House of Representatives buildings, as well as other facilities in the National Assembly complex. The union’s demands have been met with resistance from the National Assembly leadership and top government officials.

The Branch Controller of West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Mrs. T.A.Y. Lawson, has stated that the nationwide strike set to begin on Monday will not interfere with examinations throughout the country. She sent a letter to principals and school proprietors in Ekiti State, stating that the WASSCE SC 2024 will proceed as scheduled. Lawson emphasized that the examination body shares the burden of unions but emphasized that students should not be put at a disadvantage by missing the ongoing examinations in Nigeria and other West African states. She advised school principals, supervisors, parents, and the general public to make adequate arrangements for their candidates to sit the exam.
First Batch Of Jigawa Pilgrims Airlifted To Saudi Arabia
The first batch of intending pilgrims from Jigawa State, Nigeria, has departed from Nuhu Muhammadu Sunusi International Airport to Saudi Arabia. The 410 pilgrims, from 16 local government areas, left the country at 11:00am. The board registered 1,293 pilgrims for this year’s Hajj exercise, with the remaining 550 pilgrims to be airlifted in two batches.
