TInubu: ‘We Are Ending Petroleum Subsidy But Funding Hajj Subsidy To The Tune Of N90bn’- Prof. Chidi Odinkalu
Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, a former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, stating that the country’s lack of production is the root cause of forex shortages, not the reforms.
He sarcastically noted that the government’s frequent declarations of public holidays, such as the extended Eid celebration, hinder productivity.
He also pointed out the irony of ending petroleum subsidies while maintaining a N90bn Hajj subsidy, implying that the government’s economic policies are inconsistent and ineffective.
Overall, he believes that the major economic policies have been reversed, suggesting that the reforms have not achieved their intended goals.
In a recent interview with Punch News, Chidi Odinkalu said: “The supply is short because the country is not producing enough to earn forex. But how can we produce when the government is busy administering public holidays? Remember that for the last Eid, Nigeria began the holiday one day before Saudi Arabia and even added one more day to the bargain on top of the two days officially proclaimed.
