Odinkalu Reacts After X User Said Igbo Chief Justice Aguiyi Ironsi Appointed In 1966 Ruined Nigeria
Professor Chidi Anselm Odinkalu, a well-known human rights lawyer and former Chairman of Nigeria’s National Human Rights Commission, has responded to a misleading claim by an X user about Nigeria’s Chief Justice appointment in 1966.
An X user claimed that an Igbo Chief Justice appointed by Aguiyi Ironsi in 1966 had ruined Nigeria.
In a recent statement via his official X account, Professor Odinkalu responded to the X user’s statement.
“Too many e-diats misleading too many people here: Sir Adetokunbo Ademola was Chief Justice of #Nigeria for the unbroken period 1958-1972. Aguiyi Ironsi did not appoint any Chief Justice of Nigeria,” Odinkalu wrote.
Sir Adetokunbo Ademola served as Chief Justice of Nigeria from 1958 to 1972, a period that includes the time of Aguiyi Ironsi’s leadership.
Aguiyi Ironsi, a Nigerian military officer, served as the Head of State of Nigeria for a brief period in 1966.
Professor Odinkalu’s clarification highlights the importance of accurate historical records.
Odinkalu’s response aims to correct the public record and prevent the spread of misinformation…..Sēe Moré
