When I Came Back As Governor In 2011, Everybody Knew That Ado Bayero Was Not Supporting Us–Kwankwaso

According to the report from the Vanguard, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso addressed the debate surrounding the possibility of introducing a tenure-based system for Emirs, acknowledging that both sides of the argument have some merit.

He recalled that despite late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, not supporting his administration, he did not contemplate removing him when he came to power in 2011.

He emphasized the importance of respecting the position of Emirs as custodians of tradition and community leaders.

He underscored the need for all stakeholders, including political actors, to maintain decorum and adhere to established norms, rather than attempting to wield political influence over the emirate system

He said, “For those that are looking at it from the perspective of whether it’s going to be tenure-based are somehow right but who started it? When I came back as Governor in 2011, everybody knew that late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, was not supporting us, he was supporting Shekarau but when we got into power we never thought of dethroning him.
