According to a report by Fox News, on Tuesday May 5, 2026, the United States has officially launched Operation Project Freedom, a massive military effort to unblock the Strait of Hormuz and restore the free flow of global commerce.
The mission, supported by 15,000 American service members, has already seen its first kinetic engagements, with U.S. attack helicopters neutralizing Iranian threats in the region.
Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed this morning that the U.S. military has concentrated an unprecedented level of capability at the strategic choke point.
“We have an enormous amount of capability and fire power concentrated in and around the strait including A864 Apache and M860 Seahawk helicopters used just this morning to eliminate small Iranian boats,” CENTCOM reported. “15,000 American service members are supporting Operation Project Freedom.”
