Onanuga Speaks Only For 1 Person & 1 Person Alone & That’s The President Commander In Chief—Fagbemi

In an interview on Arise Tv, on Monday, July 6, 2026, as a political scientist, Dr. Kunle Fagbemi has responded to the scandal surrounding the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) by casting doubt on the duties of presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.

Talking during the interview, Fagbemi stated that the role of the presidential spokesman is to defend other government officials and not to discuss issues that pertain directly to the president.

According to him, “Bayo Onanuga speaks only for one person and one person alone and that is the president commander-in-chief.”

When asked about a presidential statement that protected the Chief of Staff in the wake of accusations related to the PFIPC affair, Fagbemi made the remark. He emphasised that the constitutional duty of the spokesman is directly related to the presidency.

He went on to explain that it was wrong to use the presidential letter to protect the chief of staff, and he was disappointed about it. The president’s advisor Fagbemi asked the press secretary not to speak for anyone other than the president when making pronouncements.

The political scientist voiced worries regarding the National Assembly’s monitoring duties in addition to the presidency. He demanded an explanation from lawmakers in charge of allocating funds as to how a now-declared fictional agency slipped into official budget records undetected.

Fagbemi addressed the matter by restating his request for the formation of a judicial panel of investigation.

He reasoned that forming such a group would allow for a thorough examination of the situation, the pinpointing of any institutional failures, and the formulation of suitable recommendations.
