In a recent interview with The Sun on Saturday, May 2, 2026, elder statesman and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Mike Ahamba, SAN, has raised concerns over the rising insecurity in the country and the government’s response to it, stating that insecurity is getting worse daily while authorities appear unconcerned.
He warned that citizens must pay attention to the situation and hold leaders accountable and expressed worry that insecurity in Nigeria has different dimensions, he explained that there are two major groups involved in violent activities across the country.
According to him, one group is commonly referred to as bandits, he said they are driven mainly by economic hardship and seek financial gain through kidnapping and ransom demands.
He further explained that another group is made up of terrorists, he noted that they are motivated by territorial and ideological goals, aiming to control and dominate areas.
He stressed that bandits usually focus on kidnapping for money, while terrorists engage in killings and destruction to instill fear and occupy communities, he called for clearer understanding of these distinctions to improve security responses.
He suggested that Nigerians should critically evaluate leadership and ensure accountability in governance, especially in addressing insecurity challenges affecting daily life across the nation, weakening insecurity, he warned, could worsen if not properly addressed, and he urged a more coordinated approach from security agencies.
”It is a pity. The people should take note of insecurity and make sure that this government does not come back, because if they come back, it would continue. Let me tell you something about insecurity. I don’t know if Nigerians have realised that there are two sets of people who do this insecurity,” he said….See More
