Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has dismissed reports claiming he promised to fully fix the national grid within three months, describing the narrative as a misrepresentation of his comments during his May 6 Senate screening.

The clarification follows widespread circulation of headlines suggesting he guaranteed a rapid overhaul of the country’s troubled electricity system.

According to Instablog9ja, Tegbe stated that he did not commit to resolving all grid issues within a three-month timeframe. Instead, he explained that his remarks focused on establishing realistic timelines based on diagnostics, consultations, and sector-wide assessments.

He emphasized that measurable improvements aimed at reducing frequent grid collapses could begin within months, but a complete transformation would require sustained structural reforms.

During his screening, Tegbe reportedly highlighted the need for data-driven planning, coordination across generation, transmission, and distribution segments, and institutional restructuring to address systemic weaknesses.

He stressed that reforms must be grounded in technical evaluation rather than political soundbites.

Tegbe, a first-class civil engineering graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, brings nearly three decades of experience as a partner at KPMG, where he worked on institutional reform and governance projects. Recently appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he inherits a power sector burdened by chronic grid instability, aging infrastructure, liquidity challenges, and public distrust.
