ADC stalwart and member of the CRA Network, Sopriala Membere, has claimed that residents of Rivers State have grown weary of the political influence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, insisting that the former governor can no longer rely on popular support in the state.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV on Thursday, 6 August, 2026, while comparing the political influence of Wike and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Membere argued that the political mood in Rivers has shifted significantly. He maintained that despite Wike’s prominence in national politics, the minister no longer enjoys the backing of a majority of Rivers people.
According to Membere, “Rivers people are tired of him. The truth is that the only way the FCT minister intends to win is to write election results.”
The ADC stalwart alleged that Wike’s political strength has diminished over time, adding that the minister would struggle to secure victory in any genuinely free and fair electoral contest in Rivers State.
