Segun Showunmi Reacts After Watching Video Of DSS Operatives Celebrating The Removal Of DSS Boss
Dr. Segun Showunmi, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed his reaction after viewing a video of some operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) celebrating the removal of their former Director-General, Yusuf Bichi. According to Punch, President Bola Tinubu recently appointed Adeola Ajayi as the new Director-General of the DSS, a decision that was officially announced by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.
Following this announcement, a video surfaced online showing DSS operatives jubilantly celebrating Bichi’s removal. In the video, the officials were seen jumping and embracing each other, an unusual scene for members of a secretive organization like the DSS.
Reacting to the video, Segun Showunmi took to his official X handle to share his thoughts. He questioned whether Yusuf Bichi’s leadership was so problematic that it led to such a public display of celebration by the DSS operatives. Showunmi also raised concerns about the leak of the video from within a secretive agency, cautioning against what he termed as “anyhowness” in the nation’s conduct.
In his post, Showunmi asked if Bichi was truly that bad to warrant the celebratory reaction from his former subordinates and questioned how a secret organization could allow such a video to leak. He emphasized that the nation should avoid descending into a state where such breaches of protocol become the norm.
He remarked, “Was the man that bad to cause this type of celebration and for a secret organization who leaked this? We cannot become a nation of anyhowness”
