Russia Responds As Northern Protesters Display Its Flag During Ongoing Hunger Protest

The Russian Embassy in Nigeria has denied any involvement with a group of protesters in northern Nigeria who were seen carrying Russian flags and chanting slogans.

According to the report by Daily Trust on Monday, the embassy’s statement came following concerns about external interference in regional affairs, particularly in light of Russia’s alleged involvement in recent political upheavals in several West African countries.

The protesters, who marched on the streets with Russian flags and placards, sparked concerns about possible external influence.

However, the Russian Embassy has emphasized that Russia does not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, including Nigeria, and that the protesters’ actions do not reflect any official Russian government policy or position.

Part of the embassy’s statement read, “The embassy has noted the reports in Nigerian media and the circulation of videos and images in digital media depicting protesters in northern states of the country carrying Russian flags and chanting slogans to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“The Government of the Russian Federation as well as any Russian officials are not involved in these activities and do not coordinate them in any way.”

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence, General Chris Musa, has condemned the protesters’ actions as treasonable, warning that the law would catch up with them.

The Nigerian government has been working to maintain stability and security in the face of ongoing protests and unrest.
