On National TV Jonathan Said“Myself And Sambo Will Run For OneTerm”,He Didn’t Fulfill Promise-Haroun

Public Affairs Analyst Yusuf Haroun has faulted former President Goodluck Jonathan over what he described as the failure to keep an earlier promise to serve only one term as Nigeria’s president.

Haroun made the remarks during an interview on TVC News while discussing Nigeria’s political history and the importance of campaign promises in sustaining public confidence. According to him, Jonathan had publicly stated on national television that he and his then-vice president, Namadi Sambo, would remain in office for only one term.

“On National TV, Jonathan said ‘myself and Sambo will only run for one term’ later when sweetness of power came, he didn’t fulfill promise,” Haroun stated during the programme.

The analyst argued that Jonathan’s later decision to seek another term generated controversy and dissatisfaction among some political stakeholders. According to Haroun, many Nigerians believed the earlier commitment was linked to maintaining political balance and existing power-sharing arrangements within the country.

He further claimed that the decision altered the political climate ahead of the 2015 general election and contributed to the growing opposition against Jonathan’s administration at the time.

Haroun also noted that several politicians who initially supported the former president reportedly felt disappointed after the alleged agreement was not honoured. According to him, the development weakened trust among some members of the political class and intensified tensions within the ruling party before the election.

The comments have since added to ongoing discussions surrounding political promises, power rotation and the events that shaped Nigeria’s 2015 presidential election…See More
