How Will N60,000 Take Somebody Home, Come And Show Us. They Couldn’t Present Anything – Festus Osifo
During an Arise TV interview, Festus Osifo, the president of the Trade Union Congress, described their discussions with government officials, describing how they were, in his view, contemptuous of their requests and unable to provide any real answers.
He recalled how they had requested a breakdown from the government showing how N60,000 would cover the basic necessities of an ordinary Nigerian worker. However, the administration was unable to provide a convincing answer.
He urged the delegates to speak with the President personally and underlined their willingness to stay in the meeting while they waited for a better offer from the administration.
Festus Osifo gave this response when asked what came out of the discussion between government officials and labor union representatives.
In his words, “We have asked you to go and do your analysis. How will N60,000 take somebody home? Come and show us. They couldn’t present anything.”
“We also asked them to bring the value of N18,000 and the value of N30,000 to the present value of today. They did not also do that.”
