Activist Omoyele Sowore has alleged that security agents used a dangerous substance on protesters during a demonstration at the National Assembly.
In a video shared by TV Platinum, Sowore and his supporters had gathered to demand that electoral results be transmitted electronically through the IREV system without any conditions. According to him, the protest turned chaotic when security operatives moved in to disperse the crowd. He claimed that what was sprayed was not ordinary tear gas but a harmful chemical.
He insisted that the substance released into the air felt different from regular crowd-control gas and described it as poisonous. Sowore said a police officer who allegedly discharged the gas quickly retreated into the National Assembly complex afterward.
Linking the incident to former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, Sowore recalled past remarks suggesting that a special, colourless and odourless gas had been imported into the country. He suggested that the protest might have been the first time such a substance was used.
He also criticised a proposal by Senator Eze seeking a single 16-year presidential tenure, arguing that many Nigerians are already concerned about leadership accountability and would not support extending presidential power for such a long period.
