Demolition: I Was Begging The Commissioner That Even If You’re Going To Take This Place Down, Give Us Time– Lady
Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, recently addressed the demolition of properties in Mende Villa, Mende. He clarified that developers of the affected properties had received contravention notices dating back to 2021, with the most recent one issued in November 2023. This information contradicts claims made in circulating videos by a Mende Villa property developer.
In a Sunday interview on Arise TV’s Morning Show, Wahab emphasized that government authorities had taken prior steps, including issuing contravention notices and marking properties, before the demolition on Saturday. Despite these measures, some residents, including Isabella Adediji, expressed distress over the sudden demolition of their structures.
However, Isabella Adediji, one of the affected individuals, lamented her ordeal, expressing disbelief that the government would carry out the demolition without granting them any time to prepare. She recounted how she pleaded with the commissioner for even a brief reprieve, but her appeals were not heeded.
