Dr Samuel Morakinyo, an educationist, has stated that he was surprised when the military governor of Oyo State, Lieutenant Colonel Oladayo Popoola, appointed him as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftain Affairs in the state.
According to a report by Punch on Sunday, January 25, 2026, Morakinyo said that during that period, no commissioner misbehaved in office. He stated that when he left the position, he had just over N4,000 and no house.
Morakinyo said he was happy leaving office because he knew no one could question him about his assets. He also stated that he properly declared his assets
Morakinyo said he later held other public positions and that, at the time, public service was seen as a call to serve, not something people lobbied for. In his words: “When I left office as commissioner, I had just over N4,000 with me. I had no house and no assets. When I left, I was happy”
