The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has reacted to comments made by former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff about the presidential ambition of Peter Obi by sharing a video of politician and rights activist Hajiya Naja’atu Muhammad making allegations against the former governor.
Sheriff, while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today, argued that the former Anambra State governor does not possess the qualities needed to serve as Nigeria’s president.
His remarks sparked reactions from supporters of the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, including Tanko.
In a post on his verified X account on Tuesday, Tanko shared a clip in which Naja’atu Muhammad alleged that Sheriff was involved in the creation of Boko Haram.
Tanko stated that the activist made the comments publicly and that they remain part of the public record. He did not present the allegations as established facts.
Tanko also defended Obi against allegations raised during recent political discussions, insisting that the former governor maintained a firm position against terrorism throughout his administration in Anambra State.
According to him, Obi criminalized terrorism without regard to religion or ethnicity during his time in office.
He further rejected claims that Obi expelled Northerners from Anambra, saying the allegation had previously been dismissed by former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Tanko maintained that such claims should not be attributed to Obi.
He urged Nigerians to focus on verified facts and avoid spreading disputed or unsubstantiated allegations during political debates, adding that responsible public discourse should be guided by credible evidence.
