A Nigerian human rights activist, Gwamnishu Harrison, has provided his account of events surrounding the alleged killing of a suspect by a police officer in Delta State, raising concerns over the handling of the incident and subsequent actions.
Harrison, founder of the Behind Bars Rights Foundation, spoke during an interview on News Central TV on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, where he identified the officer involved and outlined the reported chain of events.
“ASP Ogbede, as they call him, Usman Nuhu, was formerly with SARS. After the EndSars protest, they changed the name to RRS. They moved them to RRS. And from RRS, he moved to a division called ELA, Division in Delta States, where he was later removed again and moved to Warri, where he became a team member with the area commander, Eforo,” he said.
He stated that the deceased had gone to collect a package before being detained at a park.
“The young man that was killed was, he went to pick up a waybill. Someone sent a waybill, so he went to pick up a waybill on Sunday. So after he picked up the whale bill, I don’t know what transpired at the park, but they said, they suspected that something was fishy with the way the park, the whale bill was looking like. So they tried, they told him to open it, which he did. And they discovered a gun, you know, a pistol with live ammunition,” Harrison stated.
According to him, the suspect was restrained and authorities were contacted.
“And then the park, the people that worked at the park, they held him and then tied him. They now reached out to the area commander, ACP Shaba, to inform him of what transpired. Now the area commander said he now called the team, the available patrol team, to go to the park, Efurum Park, to go and pick up Ogenemine Ogidi from, you know, because he was being held,” he said.
He alleged that the officer joined the team despite not being on duty and opened fire upon arrival. “So from nowhere, ASP Usman was not on duty. He now joined them. He said he carried his gun and he now joined them. And when he got to the park, they brought the boy to him, turned over the boy to them, for them to pick the boy to the station. From nowhere, he opened fire and they shot the boy,” he stated…See More
