According to a report by the Times of Israel on Thursday 15 January, 2026, according to a report circulating Thursday, US President Donald Trump has privately told Iran that he is not planning to authorize military strikes, despite a recent burst of tough rhetoric coming out of Washington.
The claim comes from Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper, which says Tehran received word overnight that Trump had reached out with a more restrained message. The signal, as described, was meant to reassure Iranian leaders that the White House is not seeking to escalate into open conflict.
Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, was cited as the source of that information. He said the message conveyed that the US president was not interested in war and wanted to avoid further deterioration in relations, even as tensions in the region remain high.
At the same time, Trump reportedly asked Iran to exercise restraint of its own. In particular, he urged Tehran to avoid any actions that could be interpreted as targeting “US interests” across the Middle East.
The report stands in contrast to Trump’s public posture over the past several days, which has included repeated warnings and threats. Still, if accurate, it shows that behind the scenes the administration may be trying to lower the temperature rather than push it higher.
