The Major Problem In Rivers Is That Governor Fubara Refused To Present A Supplementary Budget -Orji

In a recent interview on Arise TV, Darlington Orji, Special Advisor on Political Affairs to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, discussed the ongoing political and financial developments in Rivers State, including the impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu.

“The major problem in Rivers State is that Governor Fubara refused to present a supplementary budget.” He explained that the governor returned to office with ₦600 billion in the state coffers, which was sufficient to continue ongoing programs without requesting additional funds. According to Orji, the insistence by some lawmakers on a supplementary budget was more about satisfying individual interests than addressing the state’s actual financial needs.

Orji also addressed claims related to appointments and alleged breaches of constitutional procedures. He clarified that all appointments of special advisors had already been approved by the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, and did not require further screening. The governor had also not made any appointments requiring legislative approval since returning to office.

On the impeachment process targeting Governor Fubara and Professor Ngozi Odu, Orji emphasized that it lacked merit and was gradually losing support among lawmakers. Several members who initially backed the process were reconsidering their positions after recognizing the absence of legal and factual grounds.

Orji concluded that the administration remained focused on development and good governance, with transparency in both finances and appointments. He expressed confidence that the impeachment effort would eventually be dropped as more legislators and the public understood the realities of the situation.

Nwankwo further stated that Governor Fubara’s prudence in fiscal management and careful leadership had strengthened public confidence and maintained stability in Rivers State.
