Some Powerful Elite From The North Want To Break The Ranks Of Southern Political Heavyweights -Ojo

Political analyst Jide Ojo has alleged that some northern political elites are pushing for former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, not out of genuine support, but as a strategy to split the southern vote.

Speaking in an interview on Channels TV, Ojo said, “Some powerful elite from northern Nigeria want to break the ranks of southern political heavyweights.”

He argued that the plan becomes clear when you look at the Southern politicians who are likely to be on the ballot. “Obviously, they feel that if they get Goodluck Jonathan to run, we know Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be on the ballot, we know Peter Obi will be on the ballot. So if you have a Goodluck Jonathan on the ballot as well, that means three powerful politicians running from southern Nigeria. And we know southern Nigeria has only 17 states.”

He explained that such a scenario would naturally fragment the southern vote along regional lines, with the South-South rallying behind Jonathan, the Southeast backing Obi, and the Southwest supporting Tinubu.
