JUST IN: The Target Of All These Amended Laws & Registration Rules Is To Stop Obi From Being On Ballot—Ameh

Peter Ameh has alleged that recent amendments to electoral laws and voter registration procedures are aimed at preventing Peter Obi from appearing on the ballot in future elections.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV Sunrise Daily, Ameh defended Obi against criticisms that he was avoiding party primaries by leaving the Labour Party and aligning with the NDC. According to him, Obi’s political decisions were driven by concerns over fairness, zoning arrangements and stability within opposition politics.

“The target of all these amended laws and registration rules is to stop Obi from being on the ballot,” Ameh said while discussing what he described as attempts to frustrate the former Anambra governor politically.

Ameh argued that Obi has a history of participating in competitive primaries, citing his emergence as the governorship candidate of APGA through the Option A4 system years ago. He maintained that Obi was not afraid of contests but was instead seeking a political platform free from internal crises and capable of respecting zoning principles.

The former IPAC chairman also insisted that Nigeria’s rotational presidency arrangement remains important for national balance and inclusivity. He claimed that opposition instability since the 2023 elections stemmed partly from disagreements over equity and power-sharing arrangements.

During the interview, Ameh further criticised what he described as hostility directed at Obi after his recent political movement. He urged rival politicians to focus on promoting their own candidates instead of attacking the former Labour Party presidential candidate.
