Mrs Amarachi Promise Esomonu is calling for justice after her three children, aged 10, 4, and 3, were killed in Port Harcourt on May 15th. She says the children were run over by a man and his girlfriend who was being taught how to drive.
Speaking through grief, Esomonu described the pain of waking up each day to silence where her children’s voices used to be. “Everyday I’ll wake up in the morning and remember them, everyday my alarm ring but there are no kids for me to dress for school. Their killers are comfortable. They aren’t not saying anything,” she said.
According to accounts from family and community members, the incident happened when the driver, a learner, lost control of the vehicle and struck the three siblings. The children died at the scene. The driver and the person supervising the lesson were reportedly taken into custody shortly after.
For Esomonu, the loss has turned daily routines into reminders of what is gone. She said the children were preparing for school when the incident occurred, and that their absence has left an unbearable void in the home.
The mother is urging the Rivers State Police Command and the judiciary to ensure a thorough investigation and prosecution of those responsible. “I want justice for my children. I don’t want this to be swept under the carpet like other cases,” she said.
Residents of the area where the incident occurred have also called for caution in residential streets, saying learner drivers should be properly supervised to prevent similar tragedies. Some have raised concerns about the use of public roads for driving lessons without adequate safety measures.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer has not released a detailed statement on the case as of press time. Family members say they are waiting for updates on the investigation and for charges to be filed….See More
