Datti Baba Ahmed has expressed doubt about the possibility of opposition parties agreeing on a single presidential candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV, Ahmed described the idea of a unified opposition candidate as unrealistic. According to him, the group pushing for this plan is limited and does not represent a broad coalition of political forces across the country.

He explained that only two parties appear to be involved in the discussions, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He further noted that even within the PDP, those participating are not the main body of the party but a faction with its own interests.

Ahmed suggested that internal divisions and competing ambitions among opposition figures would make it difficult for them to agree on one candidate. He believes these differences will likely prevent any meaningful unity ahead of the election.

He also reflected on past political conversations, revealing that he had previously advised Peter Obi to consider working with other political figures such as Rabiu Kwankwaso or Nasir El-Rufai. Despite that suggestion, Ahmed maintained that his own political approach remains different, even though he continues to show support for Obi.
