President Tinubu Addresses Nigerians For The Second Time In A Week, Admits Hardship, Reveals Plans

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Wednesday, pleaded with Nigerians to be patient with his administration, assuring the country is about to enter a new dawn.

According to Daily Trust, this is the second time in a week that the President would address Nigerians and make appeal on hardship in the country.

Tinubu, in an official video released by the State House on August 7, 2024 (today), acknowledged the hardship Nigerians are going through as a result of fuel subsidy removal.

The President also admitted that an “avoidable lag” between subsidy removal and his “good and helpful plans” compounded Nigerians’ pains.

He said, “Fellow Nigerians, this period may be hard on us and there’s no doubt that it is tough on us but I urge you all to look beyond the present temporary pains and aim at the larger picture. The president, however, assured that the measures his government has taken would get the country out of the lingering economic crisis, urging Nigerians to have faith in his administration.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, had emphasized that reinstating the fuel subsidy would exacerbate poverty in Nigeria.

The former spokesman of the ruling APC encouraged citizens to develop strategies to cope with the economic impact of its removal by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Issa-Onilu, argued that the demands by #EndBadGovernance protesters for the return of the subsidy are driven by emotion rather than economic rationale.
