According to report by Nigerian Tribune on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, former presidential candidate Peter Obi has dismissed speculation that former President Goodluck Jonathan could pose any threat to his 2027 presidential ambition, saying his focus remains on rebuilding Nigeria rather than engaging in political rivalries.

Obi also described the party’s screening process as evidence of internal democracy and accountability, noting that aspirants must submit credentials and prove eligibility.
He clarified that there is no consensus candidate yet within the party, explaining that the nomination process has only just begun and multiple aspirants may emerge.
Obi expressed concern over worsening poverty and insecurity in the country, saying many Nigerians struggle daily to meet basic needs like food and survival.
He further called for stronger action against corruption, arguing that public resources should be used for collective benefit rather than private enrichment.
Obi also criticized politicians for focusing too much on election campaigns instead of governance, insisting that leadership must prioritize citizens’ welfare at all times.
