Dino Melaye, a former congressman and chieftain of the Kogi west senatorial district and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has revealed the reasons behind Peter Obi’s departure from the party. Obi was the former governor of Anambra State and a contender for the presidency of the Labour Party in 2023.
In remarks published on his official X account on Wednesday, May 6th, 2026, he said that the previous governor’s incapacity to easily acquire the ADC presidential ticket was a factor in his decision to step down.
You may remember that there were a lot of people wondering why the former presidential candidate for the Labour Party left. Even though he cleared the ADC leadership of any wrongdoing, many were still unhappy with his reasons.
Even though Dino Melaye’s former political organisations offered him free tickets, he defected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after the ADC refused to do so. Melaye is very outspoken.
