According to a report by Daily Trust on Saturday, May 2, 2026, fresh political realignment is looming as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso prepares to exit the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), following deepening internal turmoil within his current party.
The planned move is expected to see thousands of loyalists within the Kwankwasiyya Movement follow him, signalling a major shift in the country’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
Sources revealed that the decision followed a strategic meeting of key stakeholders at Kwankwaso’s residence in Kano, where consensus was reached on the need to abandon the ADC.
Negotiations with the NDC have reportedly progressed, with final arrangements nearing completion. The anticipated defection is likely to take place within days, further intensifying realignments among opposition figures.
Allies of the former Kano governor blamed the move on persistent legal disputes and organisational instability within the ADC. They cited court rulings affecting party leadership, unresolved congress issues, and ongoing litigation threatening its cohesion.
A leading member of the movement, Dr. Yusuf Kofarmata, stressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “ADC as a party is battling with so many crises. It will be a miracle for the party to survive the internal and external factors currently working against its unity and progress.”
Concerns have also been raised that these disputes could undermine the party’s ability to participate effectively in the 2027 general elections.
The development has already triggered defections at the grassroots level, with some local figures resigning from the ADC in line with directives from the movement’s leadership, further weakening the party’s structure….See More
