2027:Atiku Abubakar Should Be The ADC Candidate; There’s No Other Person Who Can Defeat Him-Showunmi

In a recent interview on Channels Television, Segun Showunmi, a PDP chieftain, spoke during a live political discussion on the programme Hard Copy, where he addressed opposition strategy, coalition politics, and leadership considerations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During the interview, Showunmi stated, “Atiku Abubakar should be the ADC candidate; there is no other person who can defeat him.” He made the remark while evaluating the strength of potential candidates within the opposition and the need for a formidable figure to lead any coalition effort.

He explained that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar possesses the political experience, national network, and electoral exposure required to mount a serious challenge against the ruling party. According to him, opposition parties must be realistic in their choices if they intend to be competitive in 2027.

Showunmi stressed that the success of any opposition alliance would depend on its ability to rally behind a candidate with proven capacity rather than allowing internal divisions and personal ambitions to dominate the process.

He noted that ongoing coalition talks involving parties like the African Democratic Congress (ADC) present an opportunity for alignment, but warned that without clear leadership direction, such efforts could collapse under the weight of competing interests.

According to him, Nigerian voters are becoming more politically aware and are likely to support candidates who demonstrate both competence and structure, rather than those driven by sentiment or online popularity.

He further argued that unity within the opposition remains critical, adding that repeated fragmentation has historically weakened their chances in previous elections.

Showunmi concluded by urging political stakeholders to prioritise strategy, discipline, and consensus-building, noting that only a coordinated approach can produce a viable alternative capable of challenging the ruling establishment in 2027….See More
