The family of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has announced the official funeral arrangements, nearly a month after his passing on May 11, 2026. The actor died at age 40 in Lagos following a brief but courageous battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
In a program released by the family, the burial rites will span three days in June 2026, with events held in both Lagos and Arochukwu, Abia State.
The funeral activities will open with a *Service of Songs* on Wednesday, 10th June 2026, at The Monarch Event Center, 138 Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lekki, Lagos. The service is scheduled to hold from 4 PM to 6 PM, giving friends, colleagues, and fans in Lagos an opportunity to pay their last respects.
A *Wake Keep* will follow on Wednesday, 17th June 2026, at the family home located at 7 Ekubo-Okwaraeke Avenue, Azikwukwa Ujari Village, Arochukwu, Abia State.
The *Funeral Service and Reception* will take place on Thursday, 18th June 2026, at Mary Slessor School Field, Amangwu Village, Arochukwu. Interment will be held immediately after at the family house on 7 Ekubo-Okwaraeke Avenue, Azikwukwa Ujari Village, Arochukwu, Abia State.
The family requested that RSVP be sent via WhatsApp only. They also reiterated their earlier appeal for privacy and prayers as they prepare to lay their loved one to rest.
Ekubo’s death was confirmed by the family on May 13, 2026, in a statement shared on his official Instagram page. The family described him as a man of “remarkable strength, unwavering faith, and enduring hope” who bore his illness with dignity and believed his story would one day inspire others.
News of his passing triggered an outpouring of grief across Nollywood and beyond. Filmmaker Mo Abudu described him as “loving, real, kind, and always so respectful,” while actor Ayo Makun said, “This one hurts deeply. I was there. I saw you still smiling even in death.” Fans flooded social media with tributes, calling him one of the industry’s most genuine and humble stars.
Born Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke, the actor was known for his roles in _Tinsel_, _AY’s Crib_, _Married to the Game_, and several romantic dramas that made him a household name. Beyond acting, he was celebrated for his humanitarian work and youth advocacy. In 2023, he was named Rotary Youth Ambassador of the Year under Rotary International District 9142.
