Alex Lost His Life, and the First Thing That Came to Your Mind Was That He Died Without a Wife-Ossai

The Senior Special Assistant on Media to Delta State Governor, Ovie Success Ossai, has criticized the wave of insensitive social media commentary following the sudden passing of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo-Okwaraeke.

The award-winning actor died on Monday, May 11, 2026, at a Lagos hospital following a prolonged and private battle with cancer.

Reports indicate that Ekubo had been managing serious health complications for several years, including a diagnosis of colon cancer in 2016 and a more recent struggle with liver cancer.

While the entertainment industry was plunged into mourning, a controversial narrative emerged online as some users fixated on the actor’s personal life.

Specifically, many reactions highlighted that the 40-year-old actor died without a wife or children, leading some to describe his life as incomplete.

These comments frequently referenced his high-profile engagement to Fancy Acholonu, which was called off in 2021.

In a Facebook post shared on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Ossai condemned these moral audits and urged the public to show empathy.

He noted that it was disheartening that the first thing many thought of was the actor’s marital status rather than the weight of his loss.

Ossai emphasized that the trajectory of a person’s life is already written and cautioned that humans are not God to decide whose life is complete or not.

He wrote, “Alex lost his life, and the first thing that came to your mind was that he died without a wife or child. Show some empathy. How we live our lives has already been written; you are not God to decide whose life was complete or not.”
