The United States has carried out retaliatory airstrikes against Iranian targets following an attack that killed two U.S. service members at a base in Jordan on July 17, 2026.
According to a post shared by the BRICS-focused account @BRICSinfo, President Donald Trump directed the U.S. military to “open the gates of hell” on Iran in response to the incident. U.S. Central Command confirmed the fatalities, reporting that one service member remains missing and several others were injured in what it described as a combined Iranian missile and drone strike.
In response, CENTCOM said U.S. forces conducted precision airstrikes targeting Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps facilities, missile launch sites, and coastal defense positions.
