Iranian sources say they have shot down a U.S. LUCAS drone as tensions between Tehran and Washington continue to escalate.
According to a post from @BRICSinfo, video footage shows wreckage of a damaged composite delta-wing drone on a concrete floor, with markings including “162.34” visible on the airframe. The account reported the incident as an Iranian shoot-down of a U.S. LUCAS drone.
The LUCAS is a U.S. low-cost, one-way attack drone deployed by CENTCOM during 2026 operations in the Iran conflict. Modeled on Iran’s Shahed-136 design, the system is estimated to cost around $35,000 per unit and has an approximate range of 800 km.
Iranian sources, including statements attributed to the IRGC and state media, have repeatedly claimed the downing of multiple LUCAS drones over southern Iran in mid-July 2026. Specific areas cited include regions near Bandar Abbas. The claims come as the U.S. continues strikes targeting Iranian infrastructure and maritime capabilities.
U.S. Central Command has not yet commented on the alleged shoot-down or confirmed the loss of LUCAS drones in the area.
The incident adds to a series of confrontations this month. The broader U.S.-Iran conflict began in February 2026, with both sides conducting strikes and issuing warnings over regional shipping and military assets in the Gulf.
