According to a statement released by the ministry on Thursday, the decision by London to offer logistical and military support to the US operation constitutes involvement in what it views as an attack against Iran.
Tehran issued a stern warning, threatening to hold accountable any nation that provided assistance to attacks on its territory.
As per the Iranian Foreign Ministry, it is possible to be involved in unlawful military action under international law if British territory is used for military operations against Iran.
The ministry went on to say that the UK should have condemned military strikes against Iran but instead supported what it saw as US-Israeli aggression. It claimed that Britain was involved in alleged war crimes and breaches of international humanitarian law due to its conduct.
For its part, Iran pointed to Britain’s involvement in the 1953 coup that deposed Iran’s then-Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh as evidence of what it deemed as ongoing meddling in Iranian affairs, further accusing London of upholding a long history of hostile policies toward the Islamic Republic.
The Iranian government has issued a statement stating that it will protect its independence, territory, and national security at all costs, and it has issued a warning to any country that provides Iran with military aid or attack sites that it will punish accordingly.
