Iran Reportedly Strikes Two Commercial Ships In Strait Of Hormuz, Damaging Qatari LNG Tanker

According to a report by The Times Of Israel on July 7, 2026, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards reportedly launched at least two missiles at commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz overnight, according to reports by Axios and The Wall Street Journal. The attacks damaged two commercial ships, though no casualties were reported, Axios said, citing a US official.

Reuters said the US Central Command did not immediately respond to its request for comment regarding the reported missile strikes.

Earlier, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) disclosed that a tanker traveling southbound was struck on its port side by an unidentified projectile. The vessel was sailing about 8 nautical miles (15 kilometers) east of Limah, Oman, when the impact caused a fire to break out onboard.

According to The Wall Street Journal, one of the ships targeted appears to be Al Rekayyat, a liquefied natural gas tanker owned and operated by Nakilat, the shipping division of Qatar’s LNG industry. The report said the tanker sustained damage on its port side near the upper section of the engine room.

The publication further stated that the vessel was located at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz in the Gulf of Oman when the attack occurred. The waterway is one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes, carrying a significant share of global energy exports.

The reported incident follows the conclusion of indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran last week. Those talks ended without any public indication of progress toward a lasting peace, despite a 60-day ceasefire that had been established to provide room for diplomatic efforts after US and Israeli strikes triggered the conflict….See More
