According to a report by Daily Post on Monday, May 11, 2026, former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has disclosed that one of his daughters advised him to consider working alongside the Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, during the 2023 general election period.
The revelation highlights a personal family perspective on political collaboration within the build-up to the polls.
Kwankwaso made the disclosure on Monday while featuring in an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme.
During the conversation, he reflected on the changing attitudes within Nigerian society, particularly among younger citizens who are increasingly vocal about political choices and leadership direction in the country.

According to him, the younger generation tends to engage politics differently from older generations, with a stronger focus on governance outcomes and leadership capacity.
Kwankwaso further explained that younger Nigerians are more concerned with competence and effective leadership than with long-standing considerations such as religion and ethnicity, which have often influenced political alignments in the past.

He also mentioned that even within his household, younger members of his family expressed opinions that aligned with a broader call for cooperation among political actors ahead of the 2023 elections.
These views, he said, reflected a growing desire for unity among leaders who share similar objectives for national development.
According to him, many young Nigerians are increasingly connected by a shared expectation for credible and capable leadership that can address the country’s challenges effectively.
He added that this sentiment continues to grow among the youth, who are more exposed to diverse political discussions through digital platforms and social engagement.
He said, “You will be surprised, even during the 2023 election, in my own house, my own daughter was telling me to go and work with Peter Obi. She didn’t say she was obedient, but she wanted me to work together with him, and vice versa…See More
