If United Kingdom Is Considered Democratic, Then Iran Should Be Considered Democratic -Sheikh Gumi

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a renowned Islamic cleric and erstwhile military captain has taken to his official Facebook handle to stir fresh controversies following the recent uprising in the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to his statements, he pointed out that if the United Kingdom is considered democratic, then Iran should also be considered democratic.

The recent protests across various cities in the Islamic Republic of Iran has generated grievous concerns amongst the global community, with many calling on the authorities to listen to the grievances of the people.

However, while many believed the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei should step down and pave the way for a new government, Sheik Gumi, a popular Islamic scholar had different opinions.

According to the statements which were shared on his official Facebook page on Tuesday January 13th 2026, the former military Captain made stunning comments that sent the internet space into frenzy.

The United Kingdom, according to Sheikh Gumi which has a monarch as the head of state was considered democratic, therefore, Iran should also be considered democratic.

In his arguments, he also pointed out that while the United Kingdom Monarch was the head of the Church, Ayatollah Khamenei is the head of the Islamic Republic, hence, there was no difference.

These were the words of Sheikh Ahmad Gumi which he shared on his official Facebook page;

“If the UK, with a monarch as head of state, is considered democratic, while real power is exercised by an elected parliament, then Iran should also be considered democratic, with an Ayatollah as head of state…..” He wrote.
