During an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, Asia El-Rufai, wife of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, reacted to her husband’s continued detention, stating that he deserves a fair hearing while reflecting on the personal sacrifices his political career has placed on their family.
Asia El-Rufai said she had hoped her husband would step away from politics after leaving office because of the impact it had on their family. However, she explained that Nasir El-Rufai remains committed to public service, which she described as a calling he believes he must continue to answer despite the personal cost.
She also recalled travelling across Kaduna State in support of her husband’s political activities, saying the records of their efforts remain evident.
According to her, “There’s no place that I did not enter in Kaduna, and the records are there because my husband believed in him because my husband said this is where we go. I mean, I didn’t want my husband to be involved in politics again. It has taken its toll on us. But service for Mallam is a calling. He believes that if he can still contribute, he would do that.”
Asia El-Rufai argued that her husband’s commitment to public service has always been driven by his desire to contribute to national development. She maintained that while politics has brought significant challenges to their family, he has remained convinced that he still has a role to play in serving the country.
