Asiya El-Rufai, wife of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has revealed how the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) officials arrested the doctor who was attending to her husband.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, she said, “The doctor told them that Malam’s blood pressure was elevated and his blood sugar was higher than normal. He wanted to admit him for observation for a few days. The Chief Medical Director concurred and said, ‘Notify them.”
Asiya said she immediately contacted ICPC officials present at the scene to seek approval for the admission. “Right there, in everyone’s presence, I called the most senior ICPC officer who had come with him and said, ‘This is what the doctors want to do. He said it’s not his decision to make. I said, ‘I’m not asking you to decide, call whoever you need to call and let them tell us what needs to happen.”
She stated that the officer later returned with a demand that complicated the process further. According to her, he told those present that authorities had asked the National Hospital to write a formal letter confirming that El-Rufai needed to be admitted.
