Kwankwaso:Despite Being The Strongman Of Kano,He Got Fewer Than 2M Votes In The Last Election-Momodu

In a recent interview on Nevon HQ, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Dele Momodu, an ADC chieftain, examined the electoral realities that could shape the 2027 presidential election, arguing that regional popularity alone is insufficient to secure victory in a nationwide contest. He maintained that presidential candidates must build broad-based support across the country to emerge successful.

Momodu explained that while some politicians enjoy overwhelming influence in their home states, Nigeria’s presidential election is decided by nationwide votes and constitutional requirements that demand support across multiple regions. He stressed that candidates cannot rely solely on strongholds if they hope to win the presidency.

Speaking during the interview, Momodu stated, “Despite being the strongman of Kano, he got fewer than 2 million votes in the last election.” He made the remark while discussing the voting patterns from the 2023 presidential election and the importance of expanding political structures beyond regional bases.

According to Momodu, the performance of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the last election demonstrated that commanding influence in a single state or region does not automatically translate into nationwide electoral success. He argued that candidates must cultivate alliances and strengthen grassroots support across the six geopolitical zones.

Momodu further observed that the 2027 election would likely be determined by coalition-building, voter confidence, and the ability of candidates to address pressing national concerns such as insecurity, economic hardship, and unemployment. He said political parties should focus more on presenting practical solutions than relying on regional sentiments.

He concluded by urging Nigerians to assess presidential aspirants based on their capacity to unite the country and provide effective leadership, emphasizing that national acceptance remains the foundation of electoral victory…See More
