Veteran entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy or Area Fada, has stirred political debate after warning that Nigeria’s economic hardship could worsen significantly if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu secures re-election in 2027.
In a recent post, he claimed the situation could deteriorate to the point where “two persons go contribute money to buy one loaf of bread.”
Charly Boy’s comment reflects growing public frustration over inflation and the rising cost of living.
Nigeria has faced persistent economic challenges in recent years, including fuel subsidy removal impacts, currency volatility, and food price increases. His statement appears to frame the 2027 election as a decisive moment for the country’s economic direction.
In the same post, Charly Boy also took aim at prominent activist and political figures Omoyele Sowore, Deji Adeyanju, and musician Eedris Abdulkareem.
He dismissed their pedigrees and referred to them as “betrayers” and “cashtivists,” a term often used to accuse activists of pursuing financial gain rather than genuine reform.
The remarks reportedly stem from recent political disagreements and shifting alliances within activist circles.
