According to a report by Channels Television on Sunday, January 25, 2026, although many individuals have not yet seen the complete effect of President Bola Tinubu’s policies, former House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara has stated that Nigeria is heading on the correct economic path.
Fuel subsidies were eliminated, the naira was floated, and tax policies were changed as part of President Tinubu’s extensive economic reforms since he took office in May 2023.
A dramatic increase in the national cost of living has resulted from these policies, nevertheless.
Dogara supported the president’s performance and emphasised the significance of continuity and patience in administration during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
When asked if the government had kept its campaign pledges, Dogara remarked that President Tinubu had pledged to restore the economy, strengthen the country’s defences, and implement lasting structural changes.
If people aren’t yet sensing it, “I think we’re on the right track,” he claims. Many of the problems facing the nation, he said, were inherited and would take time to fix, especially with regard to economic and security stability.
When we talk about security challenges, these are issues that developed over many years before President Tinubu took over,” Dogara continued, emphasising that no leader can magically fix long-standing problems.
Despite his assertion that “nobody with a magical wand that can make everything disappear in one day,” he said that indications of leadership and direction have been present ever before the president took office.
According to the former speaker, “from the time he came into office till now, we have seen leadership in sectors that had suffered serious neglect in the past.” This suggests that regions that were previously ignored have since made development.
