In a recent message on his official X account, public affairs analyst Mahdi Shehu strongly cautioned President Bola Tinubu to reevaluate his ongoing support for Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
“To Tinubu on Wike: You need to either dismiss Wike or risk being brought down by him, resulting in greater losses than Wike himself,” he stated.
Shehu voiced his worries that Wike’s behavior is generating unwarranted conflict and drawing significant criticism that could ultimately jeopardize the administration.
He pointed out that since taking office, the minister has been embroiled in numerous preventable controversies, including ongoing conflicts with media outlets, clashes with top security personnel, and disputes with personnel and contractors in the FCT.
Concerns were raised regarding procurement practices, land management, and possible alterations to the Abuja master plan.
Shehu noted that these persistent conflicts have left citizens questioning why the president continues to ignore the escalating issues related to the minister.
He proposed that many Nigerians are bewildered by the degree of tolerance shown toward actions perceived as destabilizing to the government.
The commentator presented several theories shared by observers:
Some think Tinubu may deem Wike beneficial for challenging political tasks.
Others speculate there might be undisclosed agreements between them that could surface in the future.
A few believe their political partnership could falter under pressure as circumstances shift.
Shehu also mentioned concerns from political analysts who worry about a sudden rift between the president and the minister, predicting that their alliance might not withstand rising internal strife.
This perspective suggests that the same forces that supported Wike could eventually turn against him.
He also referenced philosophical views from seasoned political figures who argue that both leaders may ultimately face the repercussions of their choices.
