God Help Christianity: Check Out How South African Preacher Makes Congregation To Eat Grass For Healing [Video]
Controversy has erupted in Garankuwa, north of Pretoria, as Pastor Lesego Daniel of Rabboni Centre Ministries instructed his congregation to eat grass, claiming it would bring them closer to God. This bizarre practice has sparked widespread criticism and disbelief, even as some church members fervently defend the pastor’s methods.
Under Pastor Daniel’s direction, dozens of followers dropped to the ground and began consuming grass during a recent service. The pastor, who leads the Rabboni Centre Ministries, asserted that eating grass would enhance their spiritual connection and demonstrate their faith. “Humans can eat anything to feed their bodies and survive on whatever they choose to eat,” he reportedly claimed.
Despite the backlash, several members of the congregation have publicly supported the practice, sharing personal testimonies of miraculous healings. Rosemary Phetha, a 21-year-old law student, claimed that her year-long battle with a sore throat ended after she ate the grass. “Yes, we eat grass, and we’re proud of it because it demonstrates that, with God’s power, we can do anything,” Phetha told South Africa’s Times Live.
Similarly, Doreen Kgatle, 27, who suffered a stroke two years ago, credited her recovery to the unconventional treatment. “I could not walk, but soon after eating the grass, as the pastor had ordered, I started gaining strength, and an hour later, I could walk again,” Kgatle shared.
Photos and videos from the service posted on the Rabboni Centre Ministries’ Facebook page have only fueled the controversy. The images show followers eating grass and Pastor Daniel walking over them as they lay on the ground. Subsequent photos depict many congregants becoming ill, with women clutching their stomachs and men vomiting in the sinks.
The pastor’s actions have drawn a flood of online complaints. One outraged commenter questioned the authenticity and ethics of the practice, saying, “Is this a scene in a movie…this can’t be real. God created animals to chew grass and made human beings to dominate over animals. Any person who reduces human beings to animals is definitely not of God.” Another commenter expressed shock, writing, “Why is he stepping on people? This is inhumane. Shocking.”
During a service attended by over 1,000 people, Pastor Daniel demonstrated more of his controversial techniques.
According to the Times Live, he commanded six individuals to sleep by screaming “sleep,” at which point they fell into a deep, unresponsive slumber. He then ordered other congregants to slap and trample on the sleepers, who remained rigid and unresponsive until he instructed them to wake up. “You can leave them like this for six months. I love this, I don’t want to be bored. You can even make police go to sleep when they come to arrest you,” Daniel reportedly said.
While some followers testify to the healing powers of Pastor Daniel’s methods, others have raised ethical and health concerns. Critics argue that these practices exploit the faith and trust of vulnerable individuals, potentially causing physical and psychological harm. The debate continues as more people weigh in on the appropriateness of such extreme measures in the pursuit of spiritual growth.
