According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday, July 9, 2026, Abubakar Usman, the alleged bandit kingpin arrested in a forest in Delta State, has claimed that he and other members of his gang rear cattle for an Alhaji based in Abuja.
The suspect made the claim after he was taken into custody by security operatives following an operation that led to his arrest in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest.
It was gathered that operatives of the Delta State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, working alongside the SafeCity Security Service, arrested Usman on Wednesday during a coordinated operation at his hideout.
The security team stormed the forest after receiving intelligence on the activities of suspected kidnappers operating in the area, leading to the successful capture of the suspect.
Usman was arrested after a gun battle broke out between the security operatives and the suspected kidnappers.
The exchange of gunfire occurred during the raid on the hideout before the suspect was eventually overpowered and taken into custody.
The operation formed part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes in Delta State.
The security operation was launched following the abduction of Mrs Blessing Chiedu, an indigene of Umunede Kingdom. She was kidnapped on July 2, 2026, along the Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku.
The incident reportedly prompted intensified efforts by security personnel to track down those responsible for the crime and rescue the victim.
Confirming the development, human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu disclosed in a statement posted on X that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N100 million from the family of the victim.
He provided details of the incident while drawing attention to the security operation that eventually resulted in the arrest of one of the suspected members of the gang.
A video that has since circulated on social media showed Gwamnishu speaking with the suspect after his arrest.
During the interview, Usman stated that he travelled from his home state of Niger to Delta State, where he joined two other individuals believed to be members of the gang.
He further alleged that the group received about N5 million as ransom from one of their victims during one of their operations.
He said, “We are three in number. I’m from Niger State. We were using a pump-action gun…See More
