The Commander of the Police Special Tactical Squad, Victor Ogbeide Godfrey, has disclosed details surrounding the arrest of an alleged leader of a notorious one-chance criminal syndicate, Solomon Haruna Abot, stating that the suspect had repeatedly claimed he could never be apprehended by law enforcement authorities.
Godfrey made the revelation during a police parade covered by NTA News, where security officials provided updates on ongoing efforts to combat organized criminal activities within the Federal Capital Territory and other parts of the country.
According to the police commander, Abot allegedly projected an image of invincibility among his associates and believed he was beyond the reach of security agencies. However, after a prolonged intelligence-driven operation, law enforcement officers succeeded in tracking him down and taking him into custody.
Addressing journalists during the briefing, Godfrey recounted conversations allegedly attributed to the suspect before his arrest and emphasized the determination of the police to bring criminal elements to justice regardless of their influence or attempts to evade capture.
“He publicly boasted that nobody can arrest him. He said that anybody that can arrest him must have been a dead person which means nobody can arrest him. But we told him that the only person we cannot arrest is only God. So, after much operations, he was picked like a rat, because nobody can do this to Nigerians and where we are as police, we will allow that to continue,” he said.
The commander explained that the operation leading to the suspect’s arrest was neither simple nor immediate. According to him, investigators encountered numerous obstacles while attempting to locate members of the syndicate due to their deliberate efforts to avoid detection.
He disclosed that the suspect and other members of the criminal network frequently changed vehicles and relocated from one residence to another in order to frustrate surveillance efforts and evade law enforcement agencies. These constant movements, he noted, complicated the task of tracking their activities and identifying their operational base.
Despite these challenges, the Special Tactical Squad continued its investigation, combining intelligence gathering with field operations aimed at dismantling the network. The commander stated that the persistence of the officers eventually paid off, leading security operatives to the location where the suspects were finally apprehended.
According to Godfrey, the operation culminated in the arrest of the suspects at a military estate in Abuja, bringing an end to what he described as a lengthy effort to neutralize the activities of the alleged criminal group.
The arrest is seen as a significant development in the fight against one-chance syndicates, which have become a major source of concern for residents of the Federal Capital Territory and other urban centers. Such criminal groups are often accused of targeting unsuspecting commuters, robbing them of their valuables, and in some cases subjecting victims to violence or unlawful detention.
During the parade, Godfrey used the opportunity to reassure members of the public that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to confronting criminal activities wherever they occur. He urged citizens to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and promptly report suspicious movements or activities within their communities…Discover More
