Lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has shared fresh images from his political rally amid the controversy trailing remarks made by Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, who claimed he almost lost his job because of the lawmaker.
Elliott posted the images and campaign message on social media shortly after Gbajabiamila publicly narrated how the Lagos Assembly crisis involving former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa nearly affected his position in the presidency.
In the post accompanying the rally photos, Elliott insisted that his political activities and grassroots engagements were not tied to the election season alone.
“What you’re seeing is our everyday, organic campaign — not a new act. Maybe it feels like ‘more’ now because people actually pay attention during election season. Transparency doesn’t start and stop with elections,” he wrote.
“The media can be manipulated; but our works on the ground can’t,” he added, alongside hashtags including “#inGodwetrust,” “#Doe,” and “#forsurulere.”
The development comes barely hours after Gbajabiamila disclosed at a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos that he was confronted by President Tinubu over Elliot’s alleged involvement in the impeachment plot against Obasa during the Lagos Assembly leadership crisis.
According to the Chief of Staff, Tinubu summoned him to Abuja and questioned him over reports that Elliott, who is considered one of his political protégés, was among lawmakers involved in moves against Obasa.
“I almost lost my job because of Desmond Elliot last year. You can go and verify,” Gbajabiamila had stated.
He explained that he initially defended Elliott before later receiving reports allegedly linking the lawmaker to the crisis rocking the Lagos Assembly.
Gbajabiamila further claimed that despite his warnings, Elliott failed to publicly distance himself from the impeachment moves, a situation he said almost cost him his role as Chief of Staff.
The remarks have continued to generate reactions across political circles in Lagos, especially as Elliott pushes for a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Observers say Elliott’s latest rally post appears to be an attempt to reassure supporters of his continued political strength despite the controversy surrounding his relationship with Gbajabiamila….Read More
